Design & Working of 3 wheeler

The most important part of the three wheeler is its chassis, which is made of mild steel. Mildṣ steel has the capacity to get in shape without deforming its overall body posture.

We can actually call chassis the skeleton of the three wheeler, if the manufacturing is not properly done, there are great chances of the chassis to lose its strength or capacity and also they can corrode easily.

The body of the three wheeler should be of lighter weight and should be non conducting, in most of the three wheelers F.R.P(Fiber reinforced materials) materials are used.

The body should tightly fit to the chassis with the coupler, containing all the electric components, so that the water and moisture cannot harm the components.

These should be tightly screwed to the chassis by nuts and bolts

Electric components used to make the 3 wheeler are Battery, motor, controller, harness & throttle

Major components

  1. BLDC Motor – In simple terms it is powered by the direct DC supply by batteries built electronically then of brushed motor
  2. Controller – Monitors the speed and the motor
  3. Batteries – Total of 4 batteries 12V each they are connected in series
  4. Differentials – The most important component for rear wheels, helps while taking the turn
  5. Speedometer – Its wires are connected from the throttle to controller
  6. Front shock absorbers – Helical spring are used
  7. Rear wheel shock absorbers – Leaf spring are used
  8. Breaks – Drum breaks are used which stops rear wheels

Working

  • The throttle is basically connected to the BLDC(Brush less direct current) motor of 650-1400W and 48V input,
  • When we put the key and start the throttle the motor derives the power from the battery, then there is a controller which is connected to the motor by junction,
  • The main function of the controller is to take the power from the battery and use it to control the motor for moving it forward, reverse and regulation of its speed
  •  And it also contains the switch to turn the motor on and off which can be done automatically or manually whenever the throttle is not working
  •  Then there are battery made of Lead acid or Lithium ion battery (48V,60V & 72V) the battery is connected by the controller and the motor through pins, the motor is connected to the differentials

Energy and efficiency of electric rickshaw

According to Times of India  an average field rickshaw would probably provide 20-25 km/liter.

On a average full charge, three wheeler will run 90km it nearly takes 8-10 hours to charge, and nearly costs 2-3 Rs/km, and Rs10 per passenger,ṣ its very much efficient then the other fuel rickshaw source:IJDR

The E-rickshaw market is spread around 83% and at the end of the year 2024 there is a possibility of a sale of 925000 E- rickshaw in india

Conventional rickshaw vs E-rickshaw

Some of the socio economic benefits are, the ICE rickshaw is about 2-3 lakhs and the average operating cost is around 2-3km.

But the Electronic rickshaw costs just 0.3 lakhs -1.1 lakhs, and the average operating costs are around 0.6km.

Maintenance

As far as it’s a three-wheeler E- rickshaw, there is really low maintenance as compared to conventional auto rickshaw. To maintain a conventional rickshaw you must follow these steps.

  • The engine oil should be monitored and changed regularly.
  • Oiling and greasing of paddles and breaks, and again if the rickshaw used disc brakes the maintenance cost is higher.
  • The auto should ride at a limited speed.
  • Taking care of tires.

But for E- rickshaws, it’s just about battery maintenance. The other also matters if there’s only a major accident like breakdown of a motor or a differential, so how to take care of your three wheeler battery here are some tips.

  • The water level in the battery is the most important thing to monitor, if it’s too low there are chances of overheating, and the battery can be damaged, the water level should be above the half inch internal plates, remember always use distilled water.
  • If you ever ride your e-rickshaw in rough conditions, you must check the condition of the battery.
  • The latest E- rickshaw batteries have the battery management system in built, where you can regularly check the condition of the battery .
  • Always turn off the battery when not in use, also do not leave the music system and battery idle for a long time.
  • Always use vaseline and a dry cloth to clean the battery and its terminals, & make sure the battery terminals are mounted properly.

Guide to buy E – rickshaw

  • Get a loan, you will need proper documents like aadhar card, driving license to know how to get a loan for e-rickshaw click here.
  • Check the brand of the battery, the warranty, whether it’s having an inbuilt battery management system.
  • Also look for customer service, know the terms and conditions of the battery by directly talking with the dealer, or else first go through the website of a particular brand and read the t&c.

Govt schemes on E – rickshaw

Mahindra Electric produces 500 Treo E-pedicabs in 12 cities, including Amritsar.

Each beneficiary is said to be paid a total of 75,000 and 108 Cr as per norms.

If you purchased Treo in advance, the full amount of the subsidy will be credited to your account, and if you purchased your car with a loan, 15,000 will first be credited to your bank account and 60,000 will be matched as a loan.
