How to charge your batteries correctly

Charge Your Batteries Correctly

Now that you own a lithium battery you’ll have to charge it too. Just taking a little extra care while charging can increase the life of your battery.

Various studies have proved that of the battery gets slightly improved by undercharging.

You may have overheard that you need to full charge and then fully discharge your batteries once they are immediately out from the box. Well this is not a matter of concern for various modern batteries. What holds significance is charging them in a proper manner.

You should either charge your batteries more than or until the half of their capacities. For instance if you are using 4 batteries of 3.5Ah then you should ideally stop charging as soon as you reach 7A. 7A should be considered as the upper limit. The Lower the battery charge, the happier and healthier your battery stay. However in general you should keep your batteries above 20 percent as suggested by many.

Various studies have also proven that shallow charging is much better than full one as it improves the battery life. Let the batteries reach to at least thirty five percent before topping it up back. Also avoid charging it to its full capacity. Even if you top it to hundred percent do not leave the charger plugged in for a very long time. Rather go for the shallow recharge cycle recommended above.

Charging to lower voltage can improve on the number of cycles you can get from a battery. Around fifty percent of increase in its cycle over its lifetime has been observed. But for this you need chargers which are adjustable. These chargers can be set of at different limits such as fifty percent, sixty percent etc. These are also more costly than the general ones.

Also, you must have a good quality charger. Inappropriate chargers of low quality can further damage your batteries. Without a good charger, charging tips can go vain.
