Choose The Right Charger For Your Lithium Batteries

If you want to make the best use of your lithium batteries you must choose your charger right. Choosing a wrong charger can harm your batteries and hamper their efficiency. The right charger will make sure that your batteries are safe.

Most of the chargers are either developed for lithium-ion batteries or lithium iron phosphate batteries. These are differentiated by charge voltage. Before choosing a charger you must know your battery type.

You must consider the ampere-hour rating of the charger. Every battery has a specific ampere charge rating which is related to the charge storage of the battery. For instance if your battery has 10ampere-hour rating you should not buy a 1A rated charger. It will take 10 hrs to charge your battery if done so. Although the ideal time to charge your batteries is of 1-2hrs

Most of the lithium ion cells should not be charged exceeding the 1C limit. The C rating is basically the capacity of the battery. For instance your battery is of 3.5Ah, 1C should be 3.5 A, in case it is of 10Ah, 1C becomes 10 A etc. therefore it is important to consider the charging currents also

Voltage rating also needs to be taken care of otherwise the batteries can even explode. The maximum voltage of the charger should be within the maximum voltage limit of the battery. If ignored the batteries will get damaged soon or may explode.

Also, consider the cost of your battery. In case your battery is expensive then you should go for a charger which has features like over voltage, overcurrent protection and other safety features.
